The stunning Blenheim Palace, located in Oxfordshire, England, is a World Heritage Site that is a must-see if you’re heading to the United Kingdom.

First, a little history on this breathtaking structure. Its initial construction finished in 1733, when the palace served as a celebratory landmark of the first Duke of Marlborough John Churchill’s win against the French in the Battle of Blenheim.

It has also been the home of the Churchill family for the last 300 years, including Sir Winston Churchill, who was born and raised in the palace.

The palace, which is now open to the public, includes a tour aptly named “Walk in Churchill’s Footsteps,” in which visitors walk through the palace as well as the surrounding park and gardens to view Churchill’s favorite places. Visitors are also encouraged to view the Churchill Memorial Garden, where Winston proposed to his wife.

Another must-see tour for those looking to learn more about Winston Churchill is the “Churchill’s Destiny” exhibition. This tour takes you through the stories of John and Winston Churchill, explaining how the first Duke of Marlborough inspired Winston during his political career and the parallels between their lives.

The palace offers a wide variety of other tours as well, including a tour of the fashion and styles worn in the palace for the last 300 years, an animated, interactive exhibition, a walking tour of all the Formal Gardens, and even a buggy tour. The palace also hosts scheduled courses throughout the year, such as fishing, photography, and even butler training.

For those movie buffs out there, the “Lights, Camera, Action!” tour offers visitors a look at, and behind-the-scenes knowledge of, the various films and TV shows that have been filmed on location at the palace, including Spectre, Cinderella, Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation, and even Harry Potter. Other events hosted by the palace are 7K runs, a circus, a flower show, a food festival, a jousting tournament, auto shows, and concerts.

In late August, the palace takes an American twist and hosts FriendsFest tour, where fans of the show can walk through recreations of the iconic Friends sets, from Central Perk to Monica’s apartment to their high school prom!
