Visit the Colosseum. It wouldn’t be a trip to Rome without visiting the Colosseum. Like much of Rome, it’s rich in history – built around 75 A.D — was originally called the Flavian Amphitheater, and served as an entertainment complex for bloody gladiator matches. It has stood as a staple of Roman culture for centuries, which makes it a popular vacation attraction. Make sure to buy your tickets before your travels to guarantee admission.

Take a shopping break. Are you looking to pick up some souvenirs or maybe just looking for a shopping day? Then look no further than the Galleria Alberto Sordi. Built in 1922, this is one of the most gorgeous shopping malls you’ll ever be in, with mosaic floors and beautiful stained-glass skylights and you’ll sure to be lost in the beauty. With a wide variety of stores to look in, you’ll definitely bring home a trinket or two.

Eat some gelato. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. And the Romans definitely love gelato. If you’re looking for a classic favorite, head down to Giolitti, which is a short walk from the Pantheon (another must see). Started in 1900, the shop comes with a wide variety of flavors at a fair price. It’s a great opportunity to eat a classic treat and chat with a few locals.

See some…cats? Looking to see some furry felines as well as view ancient ruins? The Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary has both. The Sanctuary consists of four Roman temples and the Pompey’s Theater, which is the suggested site of Caesar’s assassination. The area is also home to about 150 cats, who are feed and cared for by volunteers. Guests are welcome to visit the cats as they tour the ruins.

Catch a free movie. The Casa del Cinema is a must-visit for anyone who is a film fan. Located in the Villa Borghese, the pavilion hosts events with chances to speak to directors and producers as well as simpler screenings ranging from classic pieces to more modern ones. When you’re done, you can also stop by the film library and café that are also included in the Casa del Cinema.
