Located on Brompton Road in London, Harrods is a must-see attraction that began as a simple grocery store and has since grown to a seven story shopping paradise. The store calls itself “the jewel in England’s retail crown” and with its four acres of shopping space spread across seven floors, it’s not hard to understand why. Below are some things you should know before you visit. Consider it a survival guide to shop until you drop at Harrods:

– First, and foremost, wear comfortable shoes! You did read the part where I said it’s four acres of shopping space and that it’s seven stories high, right? That’s a lot of ground to cover! It also wouldn’t hurt to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated as you exercise, whoops, I meant shop.

– Plan what you want to see ahead of time. The store’s website tells you all the brands that you will find on each floor along with all the restaurants that you can dine at. Speaking of food…

– You will be working up a mighty appetite, so plan at least one if not two snack or full meal breaks. At the time of this writing there are nearly 30 restaurants to choose from in this shopping wonderland.

– Check their online calendar before stopping by, because there are sometimes activities such as wine tastings, children’s events or other entertainment events happening at the store.

– Schedule an entire day for this attraction. With sweets, souvenirs, diamonds, antiques and more, there is no shortage of things to look at. Planning only a couple of hours here would mean that you will miss a lot of what there is to see. Make it a full day affair! The store gets the busiest on weekends, so if you can manage to come on a weekday you might face smaller crowds. Don’t misunderstand though, there will be crowds no matter what day you visit. Avoid Sundays especially, however, because the building closes at 6 p.m. whereas the rest of the week it’s open until 9 p.m.
