Hollywood movies are known for having grand settings. Movies such as Furious 6 and Scarface are well known in popular culture, and it is no surprise that the settings of such movies often have something in common: they feature rich and famous people living in (and often partying in) mansion-esque villas: large, roomy, well-lit homes that very often have direct beach access and a view of the ocean. If they don’t have that, they at least feature gigantic master bedrooms with an attached saunas, Jacuzzi, swimming pool and mini-bars!

Because of how glamorous settings like this appear, many people fear that vacations offering those same settings are only intended for those who are very well off. But, villa vacation are NOT just for the rich. You just might need to change your destination! There are lots of fun, budget-friendly resorts and retreats to which even people who are on a budget can get away to enjoy a weekend (or even a week or more) of fun in the sun. Here are just a few places that might be cheaper than you think:

– Virgin Gorda’s 100 Pond Bay in the Caribbean offers multiple rooms, a fantastic view, and everything from snorkeling to gourmet dishes on the beach for less than $200 a night*.

– You can get away to Croatia for about $500 for an entire week and stay at any one of many Croatian villas that are set in sun-basking hills and are sprinkled with nearby historical sites. Local water sports, castles and cathedrals will leave you breathless*.

– The Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort in Malaysia is another good example of a budget-friendly villa resort. With almost 400 villas on the water at less than $150 a night, it’s within the range of even the tightest vacation budgets*.

– Finally, the Royal Huahine Resort in Huahine, located in the South Pacific, is another fantastic villa destination. At about $360 it is a little pricier than other options, but still nothing too extraordinary in terms of cost. Set on a beautiful lagoon, it is a true luxury resort in the tropics. You can see the sun rise and set over the ocean, enjoy exotic delicacies, participate in water sports and truly get away from it all*.
